Short-Term Running Goals: Maybe run a few more marathons?? Stay healthy, motivated and consistent. Races are fun, but unlike the hokey pokey, its not what its all about for me. Its about health, sanity and feeling great about myself bc I can call myself a runner. :)

Provo River 1/2 marathon (13.1 Miles) 02:17:10 | |
Well, ive been kind of avoiding posting this entry seeing as how my time was a minute SLOWER than last years time. Im going off of the time that was on my garmin, not what is or will be posted online. I feel that it is more acurate. We got to the bus stop at 5:00 am and jumped right on a bus so we were at the top for quite awhile and it was sooo cold we could see our breath. Got in line for the porta potties and then just hung out and tried to keep warm. At mile 4 i needed to take a quick potty break so I ran into some trees and that got me behind Erin. I felt good and then around 6.5 I had taken some jellybeans and got a stomache ache and had to stop for about 45 seconds and get in puke position until it passed. Then I kept going. Around mile 9 I had an epiphany. I knew that I was going really slow, but I was feeling steady and wanting to keep it that way, so I finally said to myself, "self, its okay to be slow. just stay steady and finish feeling good." So thats what I did. I stayed steady and I quit worrying about the time. I stayed up on the gu's and h2o, and only had a few bouts of nausea. But overall I felt pretty good, I enjoyed the scenery and just tried to stay relaxed. I finished feeling good, which is so much better than how I felt last year. I ran the whole time except the 2 stops I made and I just enjoyed. When I crossed the finish line, my whole family was there and some friends so I just smiled and gave them all five. Scott found me and said "are you dissapointed?" He knew how much I wanted a better time than that, but I told him no, and told him about my epiphany. He just laughed. When I got in the car I immediately started thinking about my Hobble Creek 1/2 in two weeks and thought to myself, "I have to do that one faster." So my epiphany didnt last long, but long enough to get me through the race. So thats good.
