Short-Term Running Goals:

Maybe run a few more marathons?? Stay healthy, motivated and consistent.  Races are fun, but unlike the hokey pokey, its not what its all about for me.  Its about health, sanity and feeling great about myself bc I can call myself a runner. :)

Ran along 7th east again. Erin and Becca came, Becca did 8 and Erin and I did 10. I felt great until 7 and then my stomache started to bug me so I slowed down considerably. I started having bad mental thoughts and then at mile 8 two guys ran up along side of me and started talking, they were running 15 and had alot of energy so after running with them for just a few minutes, I got a bit of a second wind. I was happy bc I thought if I feel like this at only mile 7 next week, im going to have a hard time. I know its so mental, so I just started trying to have positive thoughts and then suddenly I was back at my car. Anyway, Im a little nervous bc if I run like I did today, im only going to knock about 3 minutes off of my time and I wanted to do better than that. I hate that I care about time now, it used to be just about finishing. Now all of the sudden I have all these expectations for myself and Its too much pressure!!aaahhhh!

easy 3 today. My music wasnt working and so it made that easy 3 a little bit boring at times. Im so used to the music, I dont know how you can run without it.

Well, ive been kind of avoiding posting this entry seeing as how my time was a minute SLOWER than last years time. Im going off of the time that was on my garmin, not what is or will be posted online. I feel that it is more acurate.
We got to the bus stop at 5:00 am and jumped right on a bus so we were at the top for quite awhile and it was sooo cold we could see our breath. Got in line for the porta potties and then just hung out and tried to keep warm. At mile 4 i needed to take a quick potty break so I ran into some trees and that got me behind Erin. I felt good and then around 6.5 I had taken some jellybeans and got a stomache ache and had to stop for about 45 seconds and get in puke position until it passed. Then I kept going. Around mile 9 I had an epiphany. I knew that I was going really slow, but I was feeling steady and wanting to keep it that way, so I finally said to myself, "self, its okay to be slow. just stay steady and finish feeling good." So thats what I did. I stayed steady and I quit worrying about the time. I stayed up on the gu's and h2o, and only had a few bouts of nausea. But overall I felt pretty good, I enjoyed the scenery and just tried to stay relaxed. I finished feeling good, which is so much better than how I felt last year. I ran the whole time except the 2 stops I made and I just enjoyed.    When I crossed the finish line, my whole family was there and some friends so I just smiled and gave them all five. Scott found me and said "are you dissapointed?" He knew how much I wanted a better time than that, but I told him no, and told him about my epiphany. He just laughed. When I got in the car I immediately started thinking about my Hobble Creek 1/2 in two weeks and thought to myself, "I have to do that one faster." So my epiphany didnt last long, but long enough to get me through the race. So thats good.

I couldnt resist curling up in my down comforter this morning and loving the thunder and lightning outside. My window was open and the cool breeze was blowing in. I love a good saturday morning like that.  So I didnt get out to run until 1:00 bc we had planned to clean out the basement this morning so the "finishing project" can go forward. So after multiple garbage bags of garbage and D.I. bags, I was able to run. I only got in 6 but I had 3 really steep long hills in that so I felt like I got a good workout. I was sweating like crazy and came home pounding water. Average pace between 9:40 and 10:15 depending on hills.  I know that seems slow to you but lately Im happy when i beat 10:00 at all!

Up newcastle, down Alta canyon and back up the hill on Highland Dr. and home. DRAGGING today, holy cow!! Did relay races in the backyard yesterday with Loser and Heidi and then we added a cartwheel to the mix and I pulled some muscles. Im old. But not very mature obviously.

I slept in bc my body was telling me I need sleep so i had to go late. This is a bad week for me. My body is feeling extra exhaustion and its not easy to be trying to train for another 1/2 this weekend. While im running, everytime I think about the 1/2 my heart skips a beat and I have to  do my yoga breathing for a minute and force my mind to go elsewhere. why does it stress me out so bad? Why cant I just look at it like another long run, the long runs that have no time limit, that have no stress, just a carefree long relaxing run, the kind of runs that I love. I wish I could go there mentally.  I feel like its 2 steps forward and 4 giant leaps backward for me right now. Maybe I need to get a trainer, or a hypnotist.

Things I learned:

1. Im not as strong as I thought I was. I thought I was running faster than that. I was even passing people. I felt great, I felt great until the last mile [you know, that mental mile] At mile 11 I thought to myself that I would for sure get a better time. So when I crossed the finish line and looked up at the clock, I said "damnit!" I think I said it loud but im not sure. I did have the garmin on, but I wasnt sure about the accuracy bc I started it a bit late and I wasnt keeping track of my splits, I barely looked at it.

2. My posture stinks!! my husband took several pictures of my coming in and crossing and my neck is high, my shoulders are slouched and I just looked like I was exhausted. So I need to work on my core strength. I need to add more strength training and I need to be aware of my posture more.

3. I need to run more consistently. Even though Ive been telling myself that I trained good enough, I know deep down that I didnt. I need to put more miles in and stop making up exuses, then maybe I can really get that time down to under 2:15. You would think that should be easy, but its not.

4. And this one is no secret, but I need to lose 10 lbs. I know that. I know that weighing less would automatically take minutes off of my time.

5. I need Stacie back, she is hardcore and she kept me going fast and more consistent. Im weaker than I want to be, than I want to admit. I wanted to prove that I could be strong without her, and I still think that I can, but Im good at making up excuses and keeping it "light" I realize that I cant do that anymore, or my time is going to never improve. In fact it apparently is getting worse and worse. I know there is no time to feel sorry for myself but part of me wants to.

6. I liked the Hobble Creek and besides the fact that it didnt get started until almost 8:00, which left plenty of time to run in the hot beating sun, I will do it again next year.
