So today felt amazing. There are about 3 or 4 days out of the month that feel great, and they have everything to do with my hormones and cycle. {sorry JD}So I'm wondering if there is a pill for this. :) {I think I have mentioned this before so sorry if I'm repeating myself}  I want to feel this good the majority of the time not the minority of the time. The majority of the time my runs are a struggle. I mean I know running is hard and its supposed to hurt and that's why we like it, but I wonder if other women feel good the majority of the time and only have those 3 or 4 days of the month that hurt and are horrible. I don't know the answer to this bc I can't get in someone elses body and feel what they are feeling. I wish I could see how Stacie feels when she runs so I could compare myself to it. Anyway, I don't mean to ramble. This thought just consumed me today. I felt soo good and I love that!

Also I ran up a few hills today. My arms always tingle and go numb when I do this. Does that happen to anyone else or is that just another weird thing I have..

I didn't check my garmin at all throughout this whole run. I only listened to the alarm of another mile passing by but didn't check the speed. That is liberating. When I got home I saw that I wasn't going very fast. :) Oh well. It still felt great.  Good Times.

awesome run, lysa. i'm glad you felt good -- i love those runs!

i'm about the same when it comes to having "amazing" days -- 3-4 per month sounds about right. i don't consider the other 25+ to be horrible, but i would say the majority of the time my runs are just normal. by normal i mean i don't feel particularly great or particularly awful, and i don't feel super fast or super slow. i also have a few days each month and sometimes even a few days per week when i just feel downright crappy. i am slow, sore, tight, bloated, nauseous, grumpy, crampy, tired, cold, hot, sneezy, numb, etc...sometimes i feel bad enough that i would rather just turn around and go home, but i know there is a mental victory if i finish out the run. these runs are more about training the brain to be able to get through rough patches and build up that mental toughness than they are about the physical aspects of running (at least that's how i think of it).

one of my favorite running quotes comes from the ever-inspiring deena kastor: "runners are never comfortable." it's so true. running isn't easy, but i think that's what makes it so fun and so addicting. it's exciting to head out on a run because there's always the possibility that THIS day will be the day for an "amazing" run. and when it happens it makes everything worth it.

Wowza Lys! Nice 7 miler!!! I definitely have many challenging runs but I just know it'll be worth it if I get out there and finish. Allie said it all so well. I like what she said about mental toughness. So true. What I eat and drink has a great impact as well. I drank some soda a few weekends ago at Lizzie's party and felt crappy on my run the next morning.

Ha! love that quote allie. There's always something uncomfortable isn't there? Just travels around the body doesn't it and it's different every run.

Wow. Thanks allie and Stacie. Its good to know that your "good" runs are not the majority of the time. Not that I don't want you to have good runs, but Its nice to know that I'm normal.{?} Sometimes I feel like no matter how much I Love running, that I just kind of suck at it. But I love it too much to give it up.

I love that quote. And its funny bc if you weren't a runner, you would look at that and say "then why on earth would you do it?" Some things you just can't explain. Which makes you feel like You belong to some secret society that holds an amazing secret. You want everyone else to know about your secret, but you know that some will never in their whole lives know about it. And that's a bummer. So even if I do suck at running, I'm still glad I belong to the secret society.

Thanks for the words. I appreciate them.

i'd like to add some more words to supplement the existing words.

also, i agree with allie. most of my runs are ho-hom, some are awful, but then you get one that just absolutely rocketh, and you know that you want to keep running consistently and get to one of those runs again.

awesome 7 Lysa!

Great! These runs are Da Bomb! Are you like me and wonder if something is wrong when you feel that good on a run? Yesterday I kept thinking hmmm when am i gonna break down? Enjoy it and keep the memory for your next crappy day!

From Lysa on Thu, Jan 26, 2012 at 16:56:48 from 67.166.122.134

Thayne, I totally do that! The whole time today I kept thinking, 'should I go one more mile? what if it starts to suck if I do? should I? Shouldn't I??' I don't trust it!! haha

From JD on Thu, Jan 26, 2012 at 17:06:56 from 70.96.78.149

i'll do that too. then an hour later, while i'm still buzzing from the endorphins, i'll wish i had kept going for a couple of more miles.
